Incentive respiratory therapy

Incentive spirometry has been widely used in the prevention and treatment of postoperative pulmonary complications, although the evidence on its effectiveness has been a matter of debate. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic — where the disease has been shown to cause significant respiratory dysfunction in both the short and long term — the extended use of incentive spirometry has been reported in both the acute phase and the recovery stage. This approach seeks to optimize lung function and promote faster, more effective respiratory rehabilitation in patients affected by COVID-19, thereby helping to reduce morbidity and improve quality of life during recovery.
